If you're like me, you've used many task managers over the years. From the leather-bound planner to the Palm-Pilot to Outlook, and several others - only to abandon them a few days later.

The folks at Remember The Milk have finally put together a task manager I have stuck with. I attribute this to the ease of use, the logical arrangement and the daily email reminders. [Click Image for Screen Shot]

Here are a few of my favorite features;

  • Multiple Lists - In RTM you can setup multiple 'lists' which allow you to divide your tasks. Your email reminders and default view however provide a rolled-up look at tasks and allow you to quickly see what items are past due, due today or of a certain priority. You can also add tags which precede the task name (click image at right to zoom-in) to further categorize.
  • Plain Language Due Dates - Instead of flipping to my calendar to search for dates, I can simply enter "Friday" or "Next Tuesday" and RTM will convert it appropriately.
  • Notes, Locations and URL's - Each task can have a dedicated note section, location or URL to make completing the task a breeze from a single interface.
  • Desktop/Web/Mobile Based - RTM offers several entry ways to the system including email and a handy Google Home Page gadget.

Why is it so easy to stick with? Entering and updating tasks is a breeze. I can access it from my desktop, the web, or from my iPhone (there is an app for the iPhone as well) and synch with any iCal based system. For several other reasons I can't describe, it just works!

Reader Question - What task management tool do you use, and what makes it great?

A Good Task Manager?
I've been trying to think of something that could help my husband be more organized. I hadn't thought of a program like this, but it really sounds like something he could use. I'm glad I ran across it. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing- I'll give it a try.
Thank you for sharing this service. At work, I have tried to use Outlook to organize my tasks, but hated that it was not very customizable. Lately I have been using old fashioned sticky notes. I’ll need to give this service a try since it can be customized in so many ways and takes advantage of the many ways people use to interact with the web--it is also so much more practical than Outlook.

Good idea
I have been looking for a good task manager for a while, and I never seem to use the one I have. This one is great. I downloaded it and it works wonderfully.
